Hon’ble Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, this afternoon. Hon’ble Minister recalled their meeting in Kathmandu on 27 August 2024 and expressed satisfaction with the strong bilateral relations between the two friendly nations. She encouraged her Omani counterpart to promote private sector investment from Oman in Nepal, particularly in key sectors such as agriculture, energy, tourism, infrastructure, IT, and digitalization. She also highlighted the potential benefits of enhanced diplomatic presence and direct air connectivity.

H.E. the Foreign Minister of Oman expressed his appreciation for Hon’ble Minister’s participation in the Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat and emphasized the importance of working closely to explore new opportunities for cooperation between Oman and Nepal. Regarding the possibility of establishing an Omani Embassy in Kathmandu, H.E. the Minister acknowledged the request and noted that the matter would be studied further. He also reiterated Oman’s interest in examining ways to facilitate direct flights to Kathmandu in the future.

H.E. the Minister commended the honesty, integrity, diligence, and hard work of Nepali workers, acknowledging their valuable contributions to the development of both nations.

Hon’ble Foreign Minister urged her Omani counterpart to expedite the process of finalizing the ‘MOU on Labour and Manpower Exchange’ and other pending agreements, underlining Nepal’s commitment to making foreign employment safer, more predictable, and dignified.

Both Foreign Ministers witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and the Diplomatic Academy of Oman. H.E. Dornath Aryal, Ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman, and H.E. Ambassador Sheikh Humaid bin Ali bin Sultan Al-Maani, Head of the Diplomatic Academy of Oman, signed the MOU on behalf of their respective institutions.

The two Ministers agreed to establish ‘Nepal-Oman and Oman-Nepal Friendship Group’ and directed their respective ambassadors and officials to initiate the necessary steps for their formation.

Nepal and Oman are set to conclude a bilateral MOU on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism on 19 February 2025, prior to the departure of the Hon’ble Foreign Minister for Kathmandu.
